College & University Students

Each year 35 plus colleges and universities from around the United States gather at the Florida Theatre Conference Festival, where auditions are held for students transferring from community and/or state colleges.

These top flight colleges and universities have programs specializing in the arts, and their representatives will be able to help you make an informed and effective decision about your future. Registration for the transfer auditions will also gain you admission to more than 65 workshops which cover everything from finding an agent to stage combat and successfully auditioning on Broadway.

The festival also stages a College Fair, which is free to audition candidates, where you will be able to meet directly with representatives from the same institutions you will be auditioning for.

College and university students will also be able to complete a state screening audition for the Southeastern Theatre Conference. SETC stages a conference every spring which can introduce you to more than 100 theatre companies seeking performers for seasonal and year-round employment.

SETC State Screening Auditions

The Southeastern Theatre Conference sponsors auditions for actors, singers, and dancers at their annual spring conference. This conference is attended by more than 100 theatre companies seeking performers for both summer and year-round roles - and are the most reliable and longest serving auditions of their kind.

If you are a current Florida student and/or have less than two professional credits on your resume, you must attend the SETC State Screening Audition. (Professional actors - with 2 or more professional credits - are not required to complete a state screening audition, they need to apply directly to SETC for registration.)

SETC will directly handle the State Screening Audition application and fees -

SETC will start accepting registrations online beginning September 18th, and will close registration at 11:59 p.m. on October 12th. To register for the SETC State Screening Auditions - which includes your membership and convention fees for the Florida Theatre Conference Festival - simply consult the form list at the side. You will find a direct link to the 'Florida Specific' SETC website page which will provide information, dates, and forms.

Remember, the SETC "Registration Window" closes permanently at 11:59 p.m. on October 12th. If you have not finished the application process by that time, your application will be cancelled and you will not be allowed to participate in the state screening process.

If you have successfully registered through SETC for the State Screening Auditions, it is not necessary to complete any further paperwork with FTC. This will only result in a duplicate payment, which is not refundable.

Students Not Taking Part in Auditions

There are a number of activities for college and university students at the Festival who decide not to take part in the transfer auditions or the SETC preliminary auditions, or have not successfully completed the SETC registration and application process on time.

First, there are theatrical performances going on throughout the Festival. The Theatre for Youth division, the Secondary Schools division, and the Community Theatre division all present productions as a part of their Festival activities.

In addition, there are approximately sixty-five workshops being presented. These workshops are offered by professionals and professors - from all over the United States. They allow you to improve your skills. Workshops in the past have featured skills such as tap dancing, improvisation techniques, learning to speak in a foreign dialect, improving design skills, and computerized drafting.

If you decide to attend the Festival, you should check with your faculty advisors to see if they are bringing a group of students and will be able to offer group registration costs.

If you are attending the Festival individually WITHOUT faculty/staff supervisors and are not auditioning or interviewing, you must use the "Individual Registration/Membership Form" you can find at the left. You can either submit this application with payment online or print the form, complete, and mail with a cashier's check or money order (made out to Florida Theatre Conference). The deadline for registration is October 1st.
